Phil Michael - Chair of Governors

My name is Phil Michael, and I am the proud Chair of Governors at St Cuthbert’s C of E Junior School.

I have been an active governor for 14 years leading on school finances. During that time 4 of my grandchildren have been educated there. The oldest is now studying at university.

I retired a few years ago from a busy managerial career in the aerospace industry where I developed strong financial, leadership and interpersonal skills which I now bring to the board.

In September 2022, I was elected as Chair after 4 years of being deputy. I am passionate about my role and work with a dedicated team of Governors who selflessly give their time to ensure that children receive a high standard of education in a happy and safe environment and that the headteacher and all her staff are well supported.

I now live in a beautiful old house with my partner Flora and our very vocal Bengal cat Alfie. We spend a lot of time gardening and I also enjoy DIY and making stained glass windows.

Catherine McCulloch

I have been a Governor since 2015 when I was elected onto the Governing Body as a Parent Governor, then elected as Chair and now as Co-opted Governor.

I wanted my children to attend St Cuthbert’s Juniors because I was impressed with the school’s ethos, their place within the Wells community, along with their approach to learning. All 3 of my children have attended St Cuthbert’s juniors and gained such an invaluable learning experience both educationally and with values in their community.

I take a special interest in the Teaching & Learning because I want to support the school to continue its drive for positive outcomes for pupils without losing all that makes St Cuthbert’s Juniors such a special and lovely place to be a learner.

My background is in horticulture and training within the landscape industry delivering high end projects and maintaining interior landscapes to the commercial sector. My role involved the implementation of company policies, procedures, training and industry recognised quality standards. I have specialised in Social Media with this role part time with a keen interest in the safeguarding aspects this presents to our younger generation.

I have two children, one who has recently left the school and one child currently at school. I have in-depth experience of education being a teacher and middle leader in a secondary school for the last 18 years. This first-hand experience ensures that I can actively contribute to developing our school community.

I currently lead Humanities, teaching mainly Geography, however I have taught across a range of subjects, led careers development, enrichment and community engagement within secondary schools throughout my career.

I am also an avid reader and one of my greatest achievements over the last few years has been completing two marathon walks, one across the Jurassic coast for Macmillan Cancer support and the Shine marathon and half marathon in London for Cancer research.

 Kate Rowe

I have a child who has recently started with the school and one who will join in a couple of years. I take a keen interest in their learning and wanted to help all children reach their full potential through their learning and extra school activities.

I became a parent governor, to help to positively influence the school journey for our children and to commit to helping the children, staff and school strive to achieve their absolute best, whilst ensuring their mental and physical wellbeing is thought about and considered at each stage.

I understand the difficulties in delivering an education that meets the demands of the curriculum and I want to be a positive and effective member of the team which delivers this.

Having worked in insurance for over 20 years and at a senior level I have experience of senior and strategic management and have written, and target performed to budgets on a commercial level.

Having 2 children in local schools, I wanted to be able to represent the parents in any issues or concerns they have and be able to communicate effectively with all parties.

I have a strong dedication to my own learning having continued my education through my career in becoming a Chartered Insurance Broker and ACII qualified alongside other management and leadership programmes.

In my spare time I enjoy playing team sports such as netball, spending time with family and long walks with our dog.New Paragraph
